INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR SIMON OKILL

Thank you, Simon, for taking the time to sit with me as we discuss your newest release, Luna Alturnus. I look forward to hear what you have to say as you share with me and your readers a little insight into, not only your new release, but that of yourself as well. So, without further ado, let us explore the world of Simon Okill and that of Luna Alturnus.

Thanks Robbie for taking the time to sit with me and sharing a glass of red wine while we talk. I've been looking forward to this interview with you for a while now. Your background at being a radio and television personality along with being a best selling author is very comforting. Let's see what we can bring to all those vampire lovers out there as we take a bite of this interview.

Q. First off, I like to say, the title is very eye catching to say the least. Intriguing indeed! Now, what makes your book stand out from all the other vampire novels? What would you say is the bite of the book?

A. Thats a difficult one, Robbie. For many years now I have suffered with PTSD after an accident. The effects of PTSD are quite insidious so I wondered what would happen to a supernatural creature with the same symptoms. What I enjoyed the most was releasing all the pent up emotions and writing them down as a story. I chose deep POV so the reader would feel the same as my character, they would forget information, become confused, frightened, nervous, anxious and jittery. Thats what PTSD does and my reviewers agree I succeeded.

Robbie - I'm glad you have conquered and moved forward from your accident. As you know and people who have been involved in any traumatic situation such as an accident, it leaves many scars within ones self, their personal struggle, to which you seem to have a great control over. I applaud you for doing this for you!

Simon - Thank you, Robbie.

Q. Now, if you were a vampire, where would you live and why? Give us a dark intimate look into your thoughts on this.

A. I would have to say Paris, without a doubt. I mean, come on, Parisians wouldn't think twice about a vampire stalking them. They dress like vampires. Goth is cool! And the nightlife is second to none. Us vamps have been feeding off Parisians for decades without being noticed.

Robbie - Your spooking me! How's your wine?

Simon - Divine, simply divine! Don't worry, I don't bite, I have to finish this interview...lol

Robbie - Right you are! lol

Q. I'm getting a bit hungry and that leads me into my next question. If a vampire was a chef, what would be their favorite meal?

A. Apart from blood pudding? I would prepare raw chicken liver, finely sliced, beetroot grated rough, no garlic because we vamps have no odor and would like to stay that way, drizzled with Balsamic vinegar and for dessert a bowl of blood oranges simmered in 100 year old port. That said, I still prefer a fresh snifter of blood from the source.

Robbie - Remind me not to come for dinner at your house, take out is just fine with me. lol

Simon - Oh, come on now Robbie. Once bitten twice shy are we? lol

Robbie - Your turning me Vegan! lol

Q. Make-up! Yes, lets talk about that need for sun or the lack of it on that pale skin shall we. What would be your favorite make-up for a vampire and why?

A. Robbie, didn't you know that no sun is in! Sunbloc! That stuff was invented for us vampires by the way, but there isnt a factor high enough to protect my delicate skin from the sun. Sorry to say, the ozone layer has made it most uncomfortable for us night critters.

Robbie - Sounds like a television commercial to me. Could you see it. "Hi, my name is Simon. I normally don't look like this, but since this sunblock bit me, man...I just look so pale in comparison to all those normal folks on the beach! Get you some"...lol

Simon - How's your wine, Robbie?

Robbie - lol, ok next question.

Q. If you became a vampire, who would you convert first?

A. Well, seeing as my wife and cat are both vampires, I would convert Stephen King, so he could understand what it is really like to be one of us. Perhaps then he might write a sequel to Salem's Lot.

Q. What vampire film or book, if any, inspired you to write this genre?

A. Salem's Lot is my vampire bible, Robbie. I couldnt imagine this world without it. Us vampires have devoured every word of that book over and over and some of us even live like that - you know, scratching windows to be let in - my cat does that, living in damp places like cellars - Yuck! Give me a 5 star hotel room any day with service of course. Every time I read Salems Lot, I am transported to my teen years back in the glorious 70s. Groovy! I bet David Bowie is a vampire.

Robbie - Him along with Mick Jagger and the whole stones crew. I think they all are vamps, really...lol

Simon - You got moves like Jagger, Robbie.

Robbie - No, but if he was coming after me as a vampire, I've got more moves than Jagger. Watch me go!

Q. If you could write in a different genre, what genre would you choose?

A. I have been toying with YA and have a few projects planned, but being me, they still have that paranormal quality, but not the dark Goth stuff that has owned me of late.

Q. Everyone has some type of inspiration throughout their lives they draw from. What would be your inspirational draw that drives you to write?

A. My inspiration came from an unlikely source. Stephen King touched on it in The Dead Zone - when I came out of my operation it was as if I had been given a second chance and I knew I had to write about it and I did as my screenplay Flip Side.

Q . If every genre was classified as a sport, in your genre that you write, what sport would you consider you write in?

A. Jeez Louise that's a difficult one, Robbie. Gothic Dark Fantasy would be akin to Japanese martial arts, where the power of the mind controls the body with meditation, mysticism, willpower and strength leading to a perfect warrior.

Robbie - Simon, I like to thank you for taking the time once again to sit with me for this interview. I'm dubbing this interview as, Interview with a Vamp! I've enjoyed spending time with you talking about your work and thoughts. Any last words you wish to leave your readers with. What advice would you give them and those who are writers as well?

Simon - First off. Thank you, Robbie for having me and inteviewing me , the Vamp! It's been delightful and much appreciated. To all my readers, I dearly hope these aren't my last words as I have so many stories to tell. So keep your eyes peeled for more news on further instalments. And for all writers out there - the struggle is what makes us better - the harder the struggle the better we become.

Robbie - That was good to the last bite! There you have it folks, an interview with the Vamp himself, Simon Okill. Outstanding Author extraodinaire!

SIMON'S BIO:
I live with my wife, Shirlee Anne in a pretty coastal town in South Wales, UK. We both love Stephen King and had read many of his books and enjoyed their transition to the screen. Due to our love of books, my wife and I dabbled in writing for some years as a hobby. We were approached by a film company to write a paranormal TV series. We struggled most nights and all through weekends to come up with 22 episodes only for the company to go bust. Then after an accident at work, I was forced into early retirement due to disability. I used my newfound skills as a writer to help with my depression. We decided to use our TV series episodes as templates for film scripts and novels. My writing became more serious as certain A-list actors expressed interest in my scripts. I now have 3 books published - Nobody Loves a Bigfoot Like a Bigfoot Babe - Luna Sanguis and Luna Aeturnus.
